Where the one day comes from
All the work that demands precision — the measurement, the cut-out design, producing the membrane to size — happens before installation, on the production floor. What arrives on site is a finished membrane cut for that specific room, with the positions for the light fittings prepared at the factory. The crew does not cut, does not sand and does not wait for anything to dry. That is why installation takes hours rather than days, and why a plasterboard build with skim coat and painting will never get below several days: there, the drying breaks are built into the technology.
We take the measurement after the walls are finished, because the membrane has to match the final dimensions. From measurement to installation usually takes around 5 working days for PVC from our own production; for polyester from Belgium, 5–15 days plus transport.
Installation stages — timing and what happens
The times below apply to a typical 20–30 m² room with a few light points. In a small bathroom everything takes half as long; at 50 m² with extensive lighting it stretches to a full day.
| Stage | Time | What happens |
|---|---|---|
| Preparation and protection | approx. 30 min | protective film on furniture and floor, checking dimensions and wiring |
| Perimeter profiles | approx. 1.5–2.5 h | aluminium profile fixed to the walls around the perimeter, levelled with a laser |
| Substructures and rings | approx. 1–2 h | platforms for light fittings, reinforced rings for the cut-outs, cable routing |
| Tensioning the membrane | approx. 1.5–3 h | PVC: heat gun and clipping into the profile; polyester: clipped in cold, no heating |
| Finishing and light fittings | approx. 1 h | edge trim, cut-outs, fitting the lights, lighting test |
| Clean-up and handover | approx. 30 min | removing the protective film, handover report, warranty card |
PVC hot, polyester cold — what that means in your home
PVC film is tensioned with a heat gun: the heated membrane becomes elastic, is clipped into the profile, and as it cools it tensions perfectly smooth. The room is warmer for a few tens of minutes, and directly after installation a faint smell may be noticeable, which disappears after airing — usually within 24–48 hours. Plants and pets are best moved to another room for the tensioning, purely because of the temperature.
Polyester is installed without a heat gun: the membrane is clipped in cold and tensions mechanically. Zero smell, zero rise in temperature — this is the solution for rooms with antiques, instruments, paintings or electronic equipment. Both variants are installed by the same crew, with the same profile.
What to prepare before the crew arrives
The walls must be finished — plastered, painted or tiled — because we fix the profile to the finished surface and the membrane reproduces the room's final outline. The electrical wiring for the light fittings should be brought out of the ceiling before installation; the crew connects the fittings but does not run new circuits. Furniture can stay in the room, but the middle should be clear for the ladders — usually it is enough to move it a metre away from the walls. We need access to power and space to lay out the membrane.
When installation takes two days
Honestly: one day is the standard up to 50 m², not a promise for every job. We plan two days for projects above 50 m², whole flats with several rooms, ceilings with extensive LED lighting (lines in profiles, starry sky, full backlighting) and rooms above 3.5 m high, where the work is done from scaffolding. Acoustic offices of 100 m² usually take 2–3 days, weekends possible. We confirm the date and the number of days in the quote, which is free and valid for 30 days.
After installation — what next
You use the room the moment the crew leaves: there is no drying, no airing out dust and no waiting for paint. With PVC film it is worth airing the room during the first day to get rid of the faint smell from tensioning; with polyester even that falls away. You receive the handover report and the warranty card — 15 years on PVC, 10 years on polyester — and settle the remaining 70% of the payment within 7 days. Care over the following years means wiping the membrane with a soft cloth; in the event of a flood, damage or a lighting change you call our service team, which takes the membrane down and re-tensions it without replacing the profiles.
